About the course

In this fun filled and effective course, we aim to make the learner get better at reading, writing, speaking and understanding the Korean language while helping them prepare for the upcoming TOPIK. Moreover, you have no fixed learning schedule and often don’t venture out of your comfort zone to learn beyond basic Korean. You might be able to hold basic conversations by but things only get real after that. But don’t worry we got you. Come learn more with us and get ready to become fluent in no time! The learners would be taught onwards from basics so they must be able to introduce themselves, talk about their likings, hobbies and family, ask and tell direction and location, talk about weather, daily routine, time, plans, shopping and many such topics of day to day happenings in written as well as spoken Korean. We will cover various grammar patterns and and vocabulary of the intermediate level that would serve as a stepping stone in preparation for of TOPIK II. *Tentative

I am glad that I found this class and a very amazing and kind teacher. In the classes we get professional and friendly environment at the same time. Teacher explains each and everything in detail and she explains it until our concept get clear. I think it is one of the best classes I have seen so far. Such a supportive teacher and positive and interactive environment. We get all the study related materials and TOPIK papers. On top of that she always motivates you to do your best and never judge you on the basis of your score. That's one of the best quality. I am so grateful that I found this class and such a good teacher. Thank you so much.

This is was my second online course ever and I would have to say thank you to both Ananya and Shivani di for the great experience. The concepts taught by them were easy to understand and tbh both teachers are very patient and makes learning korean a bit more interesting and super fun, the homework, doubts sessions and tests really made me think and search for the answers making me learn more, although i couldn't attend the last few classes due to some reasons but I will say I learned quite a bit in this course about korean language&culture and the experience of this class has being nothing but positive. Overall you won't regret taking this course. I will forever remember this experience.

Vocabulary and Topics
To purchase goods, To make an appointment (time and places), To find location, To order food, To talk about the weather and your feelings, To talk about your hobbies, To discuss past experiences and planning of trip, To talk about transportation and duration of time, To make a call, To talk about the Internet service, To ask for household chores, To talk about household chores, To explain, To ask for permission, To prohibit, To tell a reason, To use honorifics, To give advice etc.

Grammar
For grammar practice we will be using two main textbooks i.e. <EPS TOPIK-1> and <Korean in Grammar in Use: Beginning to Early Intermediate>. The goal is to ensure that students are actually able to use the patterns that they learn in class in their speaking and writing as opposed to just being able to make single sentences.

Hanja
Hanja is the Korean word for Chinese characters. Over 60% of all Korean words come from Chinese characters even though they are usually written in Hangul. We introduce around 12 Hanja characters in this course. The focus is kept on the meaning of the Hanja as opposed to Chinese character as this allows students to get introduced to multiple words from just a single meaningful Hanja.

For example:
인 (人) means person/human. From this we connect the student to multiple words that use ‘인’ (人).
인간: Human
개인: Individual
인물: Person/character
인기: Popularity
인사: Greeting

As the number and complexity of vocabulary goes up in the Intermediate Level, Hanja offers students a way to identify, understand and connect a wide number of words more easily.

Short Stories
In order to ensure that students slowly improve their fluency in reading we introduce reading and translating short stories a few weeks into the course. Around 3 short stories are covered in each course.

Poems and Songs
These are introduced case by case for the purpose of refining pronunciation and to introduce Korean onomatopoeia. Rhythmic recitation helps to train our tongues to make the sounds of the foreign language.

Cultural Information
Culture information is essential for foreign language learners as it helps them to pick up vocabulary, place the language within a context, to understand propriety etc. The textbook we use offers this cultural information at the end of every chapter.

Brief History of Korea
This course also includes one dedicated class titled ‘A Brief History of Korea’. This has been included to give students a context of the political, economic and cultural history that has shaped Korea.

Revision and Reinforcing
It is important for language learners to have a spiral curriculum when learning a new language. With that in mind we make sure to repeat and reinforce the vocabulary and  grammar rules learnt in Level-1 and even conduct revision of past material based on our evaluation of where the learners have a learning gap.

Speaking classes
We hold a few classes aimed entirely on practicing speaking using activities such as conversation making, word games and poem recitations. These activities are conducted after evaluating the appropriateness based on the level of the learners in the batch and are primarily for ensuring that every learner gets an opportunity to practice speaking in class. The topics of conversation overlap with the grammar and vocabulary that is being otherwise taught in the class.

Writing Practice
The students are expected to do at least one short piece of writing homework every week to further strengthen their fluency in using the grammar patterns and vocabulary they have learned that week.
Every week there is a vocabulary test in the beginning of the class to revise the vocabulary learnt in the previous week. It is this regular practice that will imbue confidence in the students to use their Korean skills in real life, practical situations.

TOPIK Preparation
The textbook that we use in Level-2 is ‘EPS Standard TOPIK Textbook’ because the ‘EPS-TOPIK’ section at the end of every chapter provides five listening questions and five reading questions. The format of the questions follows the actual format of EPS-TOPIK, so that students will be able to be familiar with question types and practice for the test. It also includes a ‘Culture and Information’ section that introduces general Korean culture, Korean workplace culture, information about Korean society, and other necessary information for migrant workers.

Course Curriculum

This is a detailed and dynamic curriculum for our Level 2 course. Our classes are ever changing and modified as per each batch and their response. Rather than being hard and fast about our syllabus, we focus on each student’s progress and make sure they follow and retain all that we teach. Therefore, we have not listed the topics in the order they are taught each week, this is a gist of everything we cover in 3 months. We include speaking, reading and listening lessons each week while feedback on writing on various topics as well as practice workbooks is given to students.
