Course Curriculum
This is a detailed and dynamic syllabus for the 3 months beginners course by LKWU. Our classes are ever changing and modified as per batches and their response. Rather than being hard and fast about our syllabus, we focus on each student’s progress and make sure they follow and retain all that we teach. Therefore, we have not listed the topics in the order they are taught each week, this is just a gist of everything we cover in 3 months. We include speaking, reading and listening lessons each week while feedback on writing on various topics as well as practice workbooks is given to students.

Cultural information
Basics of Hangul
History of Korean language, Consonants, Vowels, Assimilation and Pronunciation rules. Syllable formation, reading words and learning meanings.
Sentence Structure
Formation of sentences, verb conjugation in present, past, future and progressive tense. Basic nouns, verbs and adjectives. Declerative, Interrogative, Imperative and Proposative Sentences. Negation and sentence connectors. Expressions of Time, Ability and Possibility, Demands, Requests, Permissions and Prohibition, Hope, Reasons and Causes, Trying New Things and Experiences.
Grammar
We use two main textbooks i.e. <Korean in Grammar in Use: Beginning to Early Intermediate> and <Basic Grammar Workbook>. The goal is to ensure that students are actually able to use the patterns that they learn in class in their speaking and writing as opposed to just being able to make single sentences.
Vocabulary and Topics
Self Introduction, Family, Professions, Daily Routine, Location and Direction, Shopping, Telling Time, Weather, Likes and Dislikes, Food, Movies, Travel, Appointments and other topics in alignment with Sejong Hangugo 1.
Speaking Practice
Speaking activities are conducted after each new topic primarily for students to speak freely, ensuring that every learner gets an opportunity to practice speaking in class.
Reading Practice
In order to ensure that students slowly improve their fluency in reading we introduce reading and translating short stories a few weeks into the course. We also read beginner friendly poems to understand the flow and rhythm of the language.
Listening Practice
We introduce audios recorded by native Korean speakers right from the start and slowly transition into full fledged conversations and stories to make understanding conversations a super easy task.
Writing Practice
The students are expected to do at least one short piece of writing homework every week to further strengthen their fluency in using the grammar patterns and vocabulary they have learned that week. Every week there is a vocabulary test in the beginning of the class to revise the vocabulary learnt in the previous week. It is this regular practice that will imbue confidence in the students to use their Korean skills in real life, practical situations.
Revision and Reinforcing
It is important for language learners to have a spiral curriculum when learning a new language. With that in mind we make sure to repeat and reinforce the vocabulary and grammar rules and even conduct revision of past material based on our evaluation of where the learners have a learning gap.
